Why do I need a primary care provider?

A primary care provider, like Dr. Passarelli, serves as the center of your medical team. They’re responsible for keeping tabs on your health and conducting routine screenings to detect early warning signs of chronic illnesses. You need a primary care practitioner to:

• Get referrals to specialists, such as a cardiologist or OB/GYN
• Manage chronic conditions, including diabetes
• Prevent chronic issues like atherosclerosis

What happens during a primary care appointment?

Dr. Passarelli may even order patient-specific lab testing, which may include checking for risk of heart disease (cholesterol test), or determining if you’re at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes (glucose or A1C test). 

How often do I need to see my primary care physician?

Dr. Passarelli generally recommends annual exams. You should plan on scheduling your routine physical around the same time every year. Outside of these appointments, you may need to schedule an appointment if you:

• Get sick or have a minor injury
• Are traveling overseas and need vaccinations
• Require a specialized physical for work, such as an executive physical

Dr. Passarelli may also schedule you for more frequent exams if you need help managing a chronic condition, which is common for new diabetics. In a case like this, you may need to contact Integrated Express Healthcare Solutions several times each year.
