Aesthetic Services Q&A

What are Botox and Fillers?

Botox and fillers are both cosmetic procedures used to enhance the appearance of the face and neck, but they work in different ways and are used for different purposes.

Botox

Botox (also known as Botulinum toxin), is a natural protein that is often used in skin rejuvenation treatment as medication. It is derived from a natural bacterium that is found in nature, in places such as forests, lakes, and many mammals and fish.

Botox allows your facial muscles and muscles in other parts of the body to relax. Muscles that have been tense and taut for years find themselves de-stressed for the first time in years.

Unwanted fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and more vanish immediately, leaving behind soft and smooth skin. See the person you were a decade ago staring back at you in the mirror once more—let Botox bring the past back today.

Botox can also be used to treat excessive sweating under the armpits or around the body. And if you regularly experience intense migraines, Botox has been known to reduce the pain and even completely prevent it.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are injected below the skin’s surface to lift and plump target problematic areas. These fillers relieve wrinkles and hollow spots in the cheeks as well as restore thin, flat lips. Some of our most popular fillers include fillers from Restylane (Lyft, Refyne, Defyne, Silk) and Juvederm (Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma) families. These restore, shape, and re-contour skin on the face. Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) is another injectable treatment that restores your skin’s inner structure for a more youthful-looking appearance. Radiesse is a unique filler treatment that offers an instant fill of lines and wrinkles while providing essential building blocks that allow your natural tissues to build upon for longer-term results.

When might I need Botox and or Fillers?

Botox:

Dynamic Wrinkles: Botox is often used to treat dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repeated muscle movements. Common areas include frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines, and crow's feet around the eyes, lines around the mouth, and neck tightening. Preventive Measures: Some people use Botox as a preventive measure to slow down the formation of wrinkles, especially in areas prone to dynamic movement.

Dermal Fillers:

Lost Volume: As you age, the face naturally loses volume, leading to sagging and the formation of wrinkles. Dermal fillers can restore volume to areas like the cheeks, temples, and under the eyes. Nasolabial Folds and Marionette Lines: Fillers can be used to soften the appearance of nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin).

Lip Enhancement: Fillers can add volume to the lips, creating a fuller and more youthful appearance. This is a popular choice for those looking for lip augmentation.

Combination of Botox and Fillers:

Comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation: Many individuals choose a combination of Botox and fillers to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Botox addresses dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, while fillers address volume loss and static wrinkles.

Are there any other alternatives to Botox and Fillers?

Yes, there are several alternative cosmetic procedures and non-invasive treatments that people may consider as alternatives to Botox or fillers, depending on their specific concerns and goals. Here are some alternatives:

Chemical Peels:

Chemical peels involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This can improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and address certain skin concerns.

Microdermabrasion:

This non-invasive procedure uses a machine to exfoliate and remove the outer layer of dead skin cells, promoting a smoother complexion and addressing mild wrinkles and skin imperfections.

Laser Therapy:

Various laser and light-based therapies can target specific skin concerns, including wrinkles, pigmentation issues, and uneven skin tone. Fractional laser treatments, for example, stimulate collagen production and promote skin renewal.

Thread Lifts:

Thread lifts involve the insertion of dissolvable threads under the skin to lift and tighten sagging tissue. While not as long-lasting as surgical facelifts, they provide a temporary lift without surgery

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy:

Also known as the "vampire facial," PRP therapy involves using a patient's own blood to extract platelet-rich plasma, which is then injected into the skin to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture.

Neuromodulators (Other than Botox):

Other neuromodulators similar to Botox, such as Dysport and Xeomin, can be used to temporarily relax muscles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Chemical Peels:

Chemical peels involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This can improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and address certain skin concerns.

Topical Skin Care Products:

High-quality skincare products containing ingredients like retinoids, peptides, and antioxidants can help improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and address signs of aging. While not as immediate or dramatic as some procedures, consistent use can lead to improvements over time. At Integrated Express our clinicians sell medical grade skin care products such as Medi-derma and Sesderma skin care products.

Facial Exercises:

Some people explore facial exercises as a natural way to tone and strengthen facial muscles, potentially reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
